KJZZ TV OWNERSHIP


The current owner of KJZZ-TV, LARRY H. MILLER began his career in the automobile industry at a Salt Lake City jobber store in 1963. In 1968 he joined Peck and Shaw Toyota/GMC in Murray. Larry moved his family to Denver, Colorado in 1970 where he filled the role of Parts Manager for 4-1/2 years, then General Manager for 2 years and Operations Manager over a five-dealership network for 2 years.

In 1979, he returned to Salt Lake City to purchase Toyota of Murray and now owns 42 automobile dealerships in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon and Idaho. Automobile franchises include Chevrolet, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Lexus, Ford, Volkswagen, Kia, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Pontiac, Cadillac and Buick. The company has become one of the 200 largest privately owned companies in the United States.

In April 1985, Larry acquired 50% of the Utah Jazz National Basketball franchise and in June 1986 became sole owner. He then formed the Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment division of his company. It includes the Utah Jazz, the Energy Solutions Arena, a privately owned 21,000-seat arena in downtown Salt Lake City, KJZZ-TV, 1320 KFAN radio, Jordan Commons, a 17-theater Megaplex, restaurant and office complex at the site of the Old Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah. Megaplex 12 at the Gateway in Salt Lake City, Megaplex 8 at Thanksgiving Point in Utah County, the District in South Jordan and the Megaplex 13 in Ogden. It also includes Miller Motor Sports Park, a 4.5-mile road course, designed by world-renowned track designer Alan Wilson, the longest in the U.S. and host to national-level race events. The triple A Salt Lake Bees baseball team, management of Franklin Covey Field, and Fanzz retail sports clothing stores.

KJZZ-TV is the local independent voice of the Salt Lake City market. KJZZ is dedicated to making a positive difference in the market by delivering sports, news and entertainment programming that reflect the values of our community and the Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment Organization.

Channel 14 began transmitting as an independent TV station on April 14, 1989. In 1993, Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller purchased the station, changing the call letters to KJZZ.

KJZZ TV broadcasts from its facility in the Salt Lake International Center. The transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains.

Approximately 60 translator stations relay the signal to viewers in Utah, Wyoming, Nevada and Idaho.

KJZZ-TV has an extraordinary track record when it comes to delivering live, local sports, news and entertainment programming. In the Fall of 2007 KJZZ launched “POWERHOUSE” the markets only nightly, interactive sports news and information show and in early 2008 a new morning news program, “KJZZ Café”. Station plans include the launch of a new women’s talk program, the “Home Team” in Spring 2008.
