Recipe: 2 Dutch Oven Recipes

By Steve Baxter

Dutch oven cooking is a family event. Even young children like to cook in the old black pot. Here are two easy and fun recipes created by Kent’s 19 year old son, Jacob:

Jake's Bubble Pizza
12" Dutch Oven

18 Rhodes Texas style rolls (or your favorite)
30 pieces pepperoni (or favorite meat topping)
¾ C. pizza or pasta sauce
⅛ t. garlic powder
⅛ t. paprika
½ t. Italian seasoning
⅛ t. onion powder
¼ t. basil
1 C. shredded cheese
Cooking spray
Optional: Add chopped onions, olives, peppers, or other pizza favorites.

Let rolls thaw. Spray inside of Dutch oven with cooking spray. Cut rolls into fourths with kitchen scissors. Cut pepperoni pieces in half or quarters. Place all ingredients into Dutch oven and stir gently to distribute spices and meat evenly. Let rise until double. (45 minutes to 1 hour) Place 8 charcoal briquettes in a ring under Dutch oven with an additional briquette in the middle of the ring. Place 13 briquettes in a ring on the lid with an additional two briquettes in the middle, one on each side of the handle. Don't peek under the lid for 25 minutes. Lift lid and check for doneness. May need to cook an additional 5 minutes. If cooked in a conventional oven, cook at 350° for 30 minutes or until done. Remove pizza from Dutch oven and top with shredded cheese and serve.
