Recipe: Garlic Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
2 ½ tsp. baking powder
1 ½ tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1/3 cup shortening
½ cup (generous) cheddar cheese
¾ cup milk
2 tablespoons butter (preferable unsalted)
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
1. Preheat oven to 475 degrees F.
2. In a medium size mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder and whisk together to combine.
3. Cut in shortening with fork or pastry cutter until only pea size chunks remain.
4. Gently stir in the cheese.
5. Stir in milk with a fork just until mixture comes together.
6. Turn mixture out onto a lightly floured board.
7. Kneed gently a few strokes and pat or roll into 1 inch thick.
8. Cut dough with a 2 ½ inch biscuit cutter
9. Place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper or Silpat baking sheet.
10. Bake 12 minutes or until nice and golden brown.
11. While baking combine butter and pressed garlic place in microwave thirty seconds or until butter is melted, stir gently and set aside.
12. Brush top of hot biscuits with garlic butter and serve!
