This educational program is available to the public to teach people about bone health, exercise and nutrition. There is not a program like this anywhere in the State.
Build a Bone Program
The Build a Bone program was designed for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis or those at risk for bone density issues.
The Build a Bone program is a four-part series of two-hour classes on how to care for and strengthen your bones. The classes cover bone health, walking, weights and core strength and posture.
Osteoporosis Facts
1.5 million people suffer from a bone disease related fracture each year
More than 44 million Americans are at risk for osteoporosis
80 percent are women
Prevention
Include plenty of Calcium and Vitamin D in your diet
Complete weight-bearing exercises 5 times a week
Stop smoking
Talk to your doctor about a bone density test, especially if you’re around 50 years old
Build a Bone class dates for the remainder of the 2008 sessions are:
September 2, 6, 9, 13
October 7, 11, 14, 18
November 4, 8, 11, 15
Class times: Tuesdays: 5pm to 7pm and Saturdays: 9am to 11 am
Class size is limited so call and reserve your spot
Cost of Class: The cost is $125.00, which includes a pedometer)
All classes are held at University Health Care’s Orthopaedic Center, 590 Wakara Way.
