Day 1 -

One question was on everybody's mind as the Utes began fall camp today on the football practice fields at the University of Utah; "Who will be the starting quarterback?".

"Absolutley it's my position," said Junior QB, Corbin Louks, who was the most confident of the bunch.

Louks backed the statement up with his resume of being the only one of the three candidates with game time experience at the "U", and the "big" plays he's been able to make in games.

While Louks seems to be confident, Head Coach Kyle Whittingham was not so certain.

"The first order of business, like I said,  is to get it down to two," Whittingham said.  "We hope to do that after that first scrimmage which would be practice eight."

Whittingham said that as of this point no one QB has emerged as the leader after day one of camp.  He said that he is looking for the QB who can provide ball control, leadership, and the ability to run the offense successfully.

Other notes from Day 1 -

The See It, Eat it Diet - Freshman QB Jordan Wynn finished spring ball at a scrawny 152 lbs.  Kyle Whittingham sat him down in a meeting following spring ball and told Wynn that he needed to put on 40 pounds by the time fall camp begins.  Wynn weighed in at 195, a difference of 43 lbs.

How'd he do it?

Wynn said he basically ate everything and anything he could get his hands on.  Including waking up every night at 2 am and drinking 2 protein shakes prior to going back to sleep.

Wynn said that a couple of times he ate so much, that he actually threw up because he was too full.

What's in a Hairdo? - A camp tradition is all the ways that different position groups show solidarity.  The defense has decided this year it is in the hair.

The Linebackers all have bleached their hair blonde with many of them sporting the Mohawk.  Mike Wright did bleach, but did not Mohawk because of being somewhat follicle challenged.  Although he did think about pulling off the reverse Mohawk, but decided against it.

The cornerbacks have all cut and bleached the letters "ATC" into their hair.  "ATC" standing for the motto "Air Traffic Control".  Something that RJ Stanford told me is a motto brought to the U by Aaron Alford who now coaches the running backs.
