Day 2 - Not much different day 1 to day 2. The Quarterback position still remains up for grabs. Today Corbin Louks and Terrance Cain took snaps with the first squad, while Jordan Wynn dressed with the later session with the threes. Yesterday, it was Wynn and Louks with the first team. After practice, Coach Kyle Whittingham said that is what you can expect until a decision is made on who the top two candidates are for the starting job. Whittingham went on to say that each QB would get equal snaps with the first team.
As far as other changes, Shaky Smithson dressed for the later session after dressing for the early session yesterday. While former Alta High product, Sausan Shakerin played with the one's and two's this morning after playing with the later session yesterday.
Kyle Whittingham pointed out that to no surprise, Stevenson Sylvester is standing out. Whittingham said that while the team is not in full pads and not hitting right now, Sylvester is reading the plays and moving better than he ever has.
In the preseason depth chart, the Utes had played with the idea of moving Zane Taylor from center to right guard and starting Tyler Willimams as the center. However, Taylor is already back taking snaps as the starting center.
King Louie Holds Court - While Louie Sakoda awaits word on his future as hopefully a kicker with a professional team, he is spending some time at practices working with the Ute kickers. Sakoda expressed his interest in possible working as a graduate assistant at some point.
We Don't Need No Stinking Polls - The Utes were awarded a number 18 preseason ranking by the USA Today Coaches Poll (a high for the Utes in a preseason poll). However Kyle Whittingham is very uninterested. Expressing his thoughs on preseason polls, Whittingham said that they don't mean anything. Whittingham went on to say that the polls should not be released until October.
A Milestone for the MWC - With the Utes, Cougars, and TCU all being ranked in the preseason top 25, the Mountain West Conference reaches a milestone. It marks the first time in the conference's history that they have 3 teams in the preseason rankings.
