Ute Scrimmage Report - The biggest news from the scrimmage came about 15 minutes prior to the scrimmage ending news that Corbin Louks would leave the University of Utah and transfer to the University of Nevada.  Louks was not at the scrimmage today, and will enroll in classes at Reno and sit out this season per NCAA transfer rules.

The transfer was not a huge surprise.  Louks, throughout the QB process, continued to claim that it was his job to lose.  After it was decided that he would not be the starter, Louks and the coaching staff toyed with the idea of moving to a safety position, but Louks settled on transfering.

As for the scrimmage itself, the defense looked much better than the offense today.  Even with that being said, Defensive Coordinator Kalani Sitake didn't hide the fact that he still would like to see more out of his unit.  Latu Heimuli and Chad Manis both recorded sacks, and Mannis had 2 pass break ups.  Mannis continues to impress as he learns the linebacker position.  Sitake said that he has been impressed with his growth at the position.

Offensively, Jordan Wynn and Terrance Cain bot splirt reps once again in the battle for the starting QB position.  Wynn went 10 for 19 with 2 TD's, but also had 2 interceptions on back to back plays.  After practice, Wynn said it was important not to let things like that stay with you in the QB competition.

Cain was 11 for 21 for 152 and a touchdown.

As to when to expect a starter to be named?  Don't hold your breath.  Coach Kyle Whittingham said that he would like to see a starter named in the next 7 to 10 days, but hinted that a starter may not be announced publicly until kickoff of the Utah State game on Sept. 3rd.  Whittingham said that the QB battle and the battle at the right guard postition are the only positions that are still up for grabs.
