KJZZ Cafe: Layton looks to wind power: Interview with Mayor Mike Curtis

By Steve Baxter

A Pennsylvania county is conducting the first-ever study on the effects of wind turbines on the bat population. The claim of some environmentalists is the turbines kill too many bats to be worth the energy they generate. The towers for wind turbines are tall... generally 150 to 200 feet, with the blades of the turbine itself extending above that level. The cities of Layton and South Weber are considering harnessing the wind energy that blows through Weber Canyon. At this point, there are no regulations on the books regarding the use of wind power in the towns.
We have Layton Mayor Steve Curtis in the Cafe to tell us how that is advancing.
