KJZZ Cafe: Utah’s Population Boom: Interview with Utah Foundation President Stephen Kroes

By Steve Baxter

Between 2006 and 2007, Utah had the third-fastest annual population growth rate in the United States, ranking behind Nevada and Arizona.

This rapid growth is expected to continue; by 2060, Utah’s population is projected to exceed 6.8 million people. This equates to a 146% increase in the next 52 years.
Dealing with Utah’s Growth ranked tenth on Utah Foundation’s 2008 Utah Priorities Project Survey.

The top issues were traffic congestion, crowding in public schools, water supply concerns, and changes in crime rates.
