OGDEN, UTAH July 7 2009— Crafters in Northern Utah are busy preparing for Ogden’s all-new crafting event: The Simply Chic Craft Show. The show is sponsored by a group of Utah companies including Roberts, Provo Craft, and Ogden’s I-Fly and Flo-Rider. It promises to showcase a variety of Utah talent with booths from local crafters. Robert’s Craft will be in attendance, demonstrating new crafting products and providing free “make-it and take-it” booths for show-goers. Attendees can also participate in hourly drawings with prizes including a new Cricut machine, scrapbooking software, and products from local crafters.

The Handmade industry is among some of the markets to find advantages in the wake of a recession. In December 2008, the New York Times reported: “Craft stores, from giant chains like Michaels Stores to small scrapbook supply shops, are reporting that sales are higher compared with the last holiday season, and online marketplaces for handmade goods, like Etsy, are seeing a boom in listings and transactions.” (see full article)

“I’ve noticed two interesting things happening in Utah in this economy,” Said show coordinator Keli Ames, “more people are starting to buy handmade, and more people are taking advantage of their crafting talents to make an extra income. That is why we felt it would be a great year for a craft show.”
