Labor Day weekend blood drive offers a pint for a pint
Salt Lake City - The American Red Cross provides nearly half of the nation’s blood supply and even collects blood on holiday weekends to meet the constant need. Even during holidays, accidents happen, surgeries are scheduled, babies are being born -- sometimes with complications -- and cancer patients need treatment. All these activities may require blood supplies. In Salt Lake City, the Red Cross has scheduled a blood drive at the Salt Lake Donor Center, 6616 South 900 East on September 4 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Radio station KKAT FM 107.5 will host this blood drive. Country Joe will broadcast live from the donor center from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. And, all presenting donors will receive a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Presenting donors will also be eligible to enter a drawing to win Lagoon tickets or a Phantom 150cc scooter.
Every blood type is needed, all the time. Common blood types are needed by the many patients who can use those types, while rare blood types are often in short supply.
According to Lynn Chatterton, donor recruitment representative for the Red Cross, “It is impossible to know when you or a loved one will need blood. By donating, you are helping to ensure a constant and adequate blood supply for all those who may be in need, even during holidays.”
Donor eligibility involves minimum age, weight and health requirements and presentation of a donor card or positive ID upon donation. Call 1-800-GIVELIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit us online at helpsavealife.org for more information.
